Health Benefits of Lemon Water.

I hate water. Well, I hate drinking water. Is that weird? People think that’s weird because they say it doesn’t taste like anything. I’m like, “duh! that’s why i don’t like it.” However, I have been good about drinking water lately. I go in spurts. Putting lemon in my water has helped me continue to stay on track, and the benefits are immense.

  • Gets rid of toxins in the body
  • Keeps away frequent indigestion
  • Reduces fever
  • Purifies the blood
  • Good for skin: Since lemon possesses antiseptic properties, it is used for treatment of chapped skin. It is also considered an effective home remedy for acne, eczema and many other skin problems.
  • Improves dental health
  • Helps in losing weight
  • Treats a sore throat
  • Helps treat urinary tract infections

The Loneliest Whale in the World.

In 2004, The New York Times wrote an article about the loneliest whale in the world. Scientists have been tracking her since 1992 and they discovered the problem:

She isn’t like any other baleen whale. Unlike all other whales, she doesn’t have friends. She doesn’t have a family. She doesn’t belong to any tribe, pack or gang. She doesn’t have a lover. She never had one. Her songs come in groups of two to six calls, lasting for five to six seconds each. But her voice is unlike any other baleen whale. It is unique—while the rest of her kind communicate between 12 and 25hz, she sings at 52hz. You see, that’s precisely the problem. No other whales can hear her. Every one of her desperate calls to communicate remains unanswered. Each cry ignored. And, with every lonely song, she becomes sadder and more frustrated, her notes going deeper in despair as the years go by.

So it’s shitty to be a white homophobe, but if you’re a black homophobe, you’re especially shitty? This just seems really smug and really white to me. “You don’t respect my rights? Hey, remember that time when my ancestors owned yours?” Whatever this meme is getting at politically, it’s still just flat out douchy.

Actually, speaking as a white female member of the LGBT community, I can say that - for me - it’s not ‘my ancestors owned yours’ - it’s more like ‘c’mon, dude, why are you being a dick to me and telling people I spread AIDS and want to single-handedly bring down civilization and molest children and convert people to my evil sinfulness when I wouldn’t say a single thing like that to you?’.  Because, yeah, bad shit happened to a lot of black people and still does.  But they’re allowed to marry each other, they’re allowed to marry white people or Asian people or whoever they want, provided they’re of the opposite gender.  If I happen to ever find someone that I love, then yes, maybe I would like to marry them.  No, the degree of damage isn’t always comparable, but LGBT people HAVE faced harassment, assault, angry mobs yelling in their faces that they’re going to hell, maniacs protesting funerals and squawking about how God hates America because they support the ‘queer menace’.  We’re free people, yes, just as much as anybody else in this country is ‘free’ anymore - BUT - there are things that it is actually illegal for us to do.  Even having gay sex is illegal in many states, nevermind marriage.  Church-going charities like adoption services would rather SHUT DOWN THAN ADOPT TO GAY FAMILIES, depriving these children of loving homes.

The hurts are different, yes, but we are still second class citizens.  I would never begin to compare what happened to many of these people’s ancestors to what has happened to us, HOWEVER — there is considerable inequality for the members of the LGBT community in states all over this country nonetheless — and it is inequality that a lot of ignorant Christianists wholeheartedly believe is right, because Gawd commands it and Gawd sees it as an abomination.

For me, it’s not just all black people or even some of them - it’s anyone who goes to a fundie church and sincerely believes the hateful shit their pastor/priest/preacher is spewing (if he’s spewing it).  It’s white haters (Fred Phelps), black haters (ex Pastor Eddie Long, who got caught posting pictures of himself on a gay hookup site) and Puerto Rican pastors (Reverend Ruben Diaz).  It’s stupid people who’d rather have the Bible (or what they think is the Bible) read to them because it’s just too hard to read all those big, fancy words for themselves.

70% of the black people who voted in California’s elections voted against Prop 8.  Yes, a little less than 50% of whites, 49% of Asians and 50% of Latinos voted for it as well - but, still - figures-wise?  Well, I mean, I’m pretty shitty at math, but I’m fairly certain that 70% is still significantly more than 50%, 49% and 50%.  If you don’t like what that figure says about black people in California, that’s kinda not my problem.  Maybe if you’re so concerned about how black people are voting, then maybe you should try to help quell the misinformation and ignorance, but … yeah, that’d take forever wouldn’t it, and you wouldn’t have the foggiest idea where to start, right?

Well, welcome to my freaking world.

It is your problem if you don’t know that black people make up less than 7% of the population in California while white people make up 40%. It is your problem when you don’t know that 70% of 2.3 million is a lot less than 50% of 14 million. Statistics only work if you actually crunch the data behind them. Now go sit down somewhere until you learn to do basic math.

the thing that bothers me most about the rhetoric about Prop 8 is that activists of color who were working on the ground in California at that time literally BEGGED to have educational materials and flyers posted in THEIR neighborhoods, but the people they brought in to head the campaign actually refused and ignored areas of color altogether. and refused to incorporate POC in their advertising strategies.

If we remain uncritical about the way Prop 8 played out then we’re just going to continue to fill this discourse with logical fallacies and CONTINUE to ignore the intersections of race, class and sexuality.

again I’d like to point out the groups who have the power and resources and the groups that are becoming everyones scapegoat when shit goes wrong
